Product Introduction:STGM-The Smart Tailgate module
The intelligent electric tailgate system is an electromechanical device, which realizes the automatic opening and closing of the tailgate through mechanical buttons (the roof control switch, the button on the inside of the tailgate and the button on the outside door handle), remote control, etc., and can also make the tailgate pause. any position. The smart tailgate control module (STGM-The Smart Tailgate module) sends and receives vehicle information through the body control module (BCM), instrument SJB and CAN communication to realize tailgate opening/closing and self-inspection. If an obstacle is encountered during operation, a safe way is to reverse the rotation. And once the power supply is insufficient or the STG module fails, it can be changed to the normal operation mode, unlock the tailgate lock block, and manually open and close the tailgate.
Tailgate location and orientation:
The STG system measures the position of the tailgate through the Hall sensor of the motor inside the strut; moreover, the direction of rotation of the tailgate is determined by the running direction of the strut. The signal calculation (position confirmation) of Hall sensor is effective for both electric mode and general mode. The STG automatic operation mode can be changed to manual operation mode by pressing the power on/off switch on the roof control unit.

1. Intelligent tailgate control module (STG unit)
The STG control module is installed on the right inner side of the trunk interior;
The STG control module uses one motor to control two struts;
The STG control module also controls the prevention of objects from being pinched by analyzing the sensor inside the anti-pinch bar.
2. STG lock body
STG lock body consists of electric lock (A) and electric closing unit (B).
The STG lock body is installed at the end of the tailgate, and the lock/unlock mode operation is performed under the control of the STG module
3. STG strut
The STG strut controls the opening/closing of the tailgate through the torque of the internal motor;
Identify the movement direction of the tailgate by sending the internal motor steering signal to the STG module.
4. Anti-pinch strip
The anti-trap sensor APS is installed on the left and right sides of the tailgate to monitor whether an object is caught when the tailgate is closed.
When an object is detected, the STG module immediately reverses to the maximum open state;
The anti-pinch strip does not work when the tailgate is fully open/closed, stationary and during opening.
5. Remote control key
When the remote control tailgate open button is pressed for more than 1.0 seconds, the tailgate starts to open.
In the process of opening or closing the tailgate, if the tailgate open button on the remote control is pressed, the tailgate will rotate in reverse.
6. Roof control switch
When the top control switch is pressed, the tailgate performs an opening action.
7. Intelligent tailgate inner switch
When the switch on the inside of the tailgate is pressed, the tailgate performs a closing action.
8. Intelligent tailgate buzzer
When an object is detected or the user's command cannot be executed correctly, the buzzer will sound 3 times.
When the user's command is executed correctly, the buzzer will sound 2 times.
control program:
The main switch signal is sent to the smart tailgate control module STGM through CAN communication (sent by SJB)
STGM door opening process:
1. When receiving the driver's side switch, tailgate handle switch or remote control signal, start to open the tailgate
2. The locking motor pulls the plunger, unlocking (via SJB).
3. The STG module activates the strut motor.
4. The speed of the strut motor is monitored through the Hall sensor in the motor.
5. The tailgate rotation angle is calculated by the pulse number of the Hall sensor.
When the movement of the motor is limited, the STGM will think that it has encountered an obstacle and start to reverse or stop the motor.
tailgate closed
STGM closing process:
1. Start to close the tailgate when receiving the driver's side switch, tailgate inner switch or remote control signal
2. STGM operates strut motor.
3. STGM calculates and detects the tailgate rotation angle by counting the number of pulses of the Hall sensor.
4. Tailgate lock plunger engaged, locked (unlocked -> locked)
5. After receiving the lock signal, STGM stops the strut motor from running.
6. After locking, the PCU starts the closing process until it receives a closing signal.
7. The tailgate is fully closed and the lock block is fully locked.
Learning/Computing/Program Orientation:
1. Maximum top dead center of door opening
At this point, the tailgate has reached its maximum basic position, the limit point of the mechanical structure (hinge).
Therefore, the maximum tailgate opening will not exceed this point.
But, if the movement started from lower position, the tailgate will move beyond this point.
2. Learn the mechanical stop
The mechanical stop point is the maximum point of the structural position, and i can be considered as the door is fully opened (100% opening).
Start learning this position the first time the tailgate is opened.
After the learning is completed, the tailgate opening will not exceed this maximum basic position (stopped by software definition).
All positions are defined by the ECU via parameters.
Maximum opening learning procedure (garage position)
1. After the mechanical stop learning is completed, the basic position is defined by the user to be the same as the maximum basic position.
– The user can change the learned base position to any position (between maximum closed door and maximum base position)
– If the user wants to set a lower new base position instead of the old base position, he can automatically or manually move the tailgate to the new position, then press and hold the tailgate inner button for 5 seconds. (The time depends on the setting parameters.)
– If the user wants to set the tailgate position to exceed the maximum basic position, the ECU will set the basic position to the maximum basic position
System parameters:
Before normal operation can be guaranteed, the production line needs to carry out mechanical error debugging and adjustment, and calibrate the maximum operating range.
When the tailgate is fully closed (locked), limited by the mechanical structure, the maximum movement range of the tailgate is represented by the number of Hall signal pulses of the speed of the strut sent by the ECU and the position sensor.
